After growing up just a few hours from Townsville in the sleepy outback community of Charters Towers (of The Towers for short), Brendan ‘Sleepy’ Gillott, discovered dance music at a afterparty one night at a mates who had just got decks... As he exclusively tells lushfm.com.au, “It’s a pretty random story how I got into dj’ing, one night I ended up at a mates house (Rhett Ashman) who just got decks and after listening to him and how he was taking songs and recreating with his own influence I was hooked.”
...so from then on I kept going around and just watched and learned everything he was doing. So basically if it wasn’t for Rhett I wouldn’t be doing this today, Cheers Rhett hahaha
Then in late “09” I moved to cairns where I met Sona Warren probably one of the most passionate dude’s I have ever met his love and knowledge of music is ridiculous, I learnt a lot from him and devolved my style around him, he has a very unique outlook on dj’ing and the way songs can be put together etc using samples, loops, beat samples etc. Sona was employed by Heritage Cairns, where he managed to get me a job, this is where it all began, with both of our love of music we teamed up and did Loaded Tuesdays which was and Indie night. From there I managed to get sets on Fridays and Saturdays playing my true love Electro and Dirty House. After being at Heritage for 2 months or so things were starting to pick up. Then Heritage shutdown.
Which brings me to where I am now, at Consortium Townsville, I absolutely love working for this club so open to fresh new idea’s really awesome entertainment based venue. At consortium I have developed a fresh act with Sarah Little a very talented local singer in Townsville, it’s a awesome unique act that is still in the developing stages with our debut on the 24th of this month (January) which is cool at this stage it is just me dj’ing and Sarah singing, but later to develop into Sarah using different instruments Guitar, Piano etc as she is very talented.
